Mazda CX-5 Redesign Arrives in Taiwan with Standard AWD and More Space

Mazda’s third-generation CX-5 has gone on sale in Taiwan with a larger body, more cabin space and standard i-ACTIV all-wheel drive across the lineup. Prices begin at NT$949,000, while the range-topping 25S AWD Premium Plus costs NT$1.169 million.

The redesign keeps Mazda’s Kodo design language but adopts a new front grille and headlights incorporating the number “5.” Horizontal rear lights and large MAZDA lettering replace the previous rear badge treatment. Higher-grade versions add piano-black exterior trim and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The cabin receives one of the biggest upgrades. Equipment includes a 15.6-inch central display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a full-color head-up display. Facial recognition can recall a driver’s seat, mirror and system settings. Mazda has reduced the number of physical buttons, but retained familiar controls such as the traditional PRND gear selector.

The longer wheelbase reaches 2,815 millimeters. Rear legroom grows by 64 millimeters and headroom by 29 millimeters. Cargo depth increases by 45 millimeters, while the 40/20/40 split rear seats add flexibility. The top model also includes three-stage heating and ventilation for both front seats.

All versions use a 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 188 horsepower and 26.2 kilogram-meters of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode sends power through the AWD system. The review described the response as smooth and direct, and said the system provided stable traction during heavy rain. The stated fuel-economy figure is 13.4 kilometers per liter.

The suspension uses MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link design at the rear. Mazda retuned spring stiffness and shock damping to balance comfort and handling. The review noted limited connected features, including remote smartphone operation and over-the-air updates, but called the combination of price, space, equipment and standard AWD competitive in its class.
