Mendonça authorized PF to monitor Jaques Wagner's phone on suspicion of operation leak

Supreme Court Justice André Mendonça has authorized the Federal Police to monitor the mobile phone of Senator Jaques Wagner amid suspicions of leaked information concerning an operation investigating fraud at Banco Master. The decision, made on June 23 and unsealed Thursday, aims to prevent the compromise of ongoing investigations.

The authorization follows a report that one of the individuals under investigation sought a meeting with Justice Mendonça's office just days before measures were taken against the senator. Senator Wagner himself reportedly visited the Supreme Court to speak with the minister the day before the operation against him. These actions, coupled with a "sharp risk of leakage" of the investigation's details, prompted Mendonça to grant the monitoring request.

The surveillance measures include real-time location tracking and access to call records. Justice Mendonça stated that this access is crucial for ensuring the operation's effectiveness and preventing the destruction of evidence. He emphasized that the monitoring is limited to specific devices and targets for investigative purposes and does not include access to the content of communications. The Federal Police are investigating allegations that the senator received payments linked to Banco Master through his daughter-in-law's company and the purchase of an apartment in Salvador.

In addition to Senator Wagner, Mendonça also authorized monitoring for businessman Augusto Lima, the senator's stepson Eduardo Mendonça Sodré Martins, Eduardo's father Guilherme Henrique Sodré Martins, and Andréa Lima Novaes, a director at PKL One Participações. The operation, which began on June 18, is examining suspicions that arise from material seized from Augusto Lima, a former partner of Daniel Vorcaro at Banco Master. The senator has previously denied any wrongdoing related to the bank.
