Merdeka Run 2026 road closures announced for Jakarta race

Jakarta will experience temporary road closures on Saturday, August 29, 2026, to facilitate the Merdeka Run 2026, an event set to commence in the vicinity of the Merdeka Palace.

The race is scheduled to take place from 4:00 AM to 7:30 AM WIB. During this period, several major thoroughfares that form part of the race route will be inaccessible to traffic. These include Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan M.H. Thamrin, the HI Roundabout area, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Galunggung, and Jalan R.M. Margono Djojohadikusumo.

Commuters planning to travel in Jakarta during these hours are strongly advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Authorities recommend avoiding the affected routes and utilizing alternative paths to reach their destinations. The public is urged to adjust their travel times and be aware of the temporary disruptions.

Detailed alternative routes have been provided for various directions. For instance, travelers heading north from Harmoni towards Tugu Tani can use Jalan Ir. H. Juanda, Jalan Pos, Jalan Gedung Kesenian, Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara, Jalan Taman Pejambon, Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, and Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais. Similarly, routes from the south, east, and west have been mapped out to help navigate the closures.
