Mexican aboard Global Sumud Flotilla Intercepted by Israel Repatriated; SRE Demands Respect for Crew Rights

The Mexican government, through its Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE), has successfully facilitated the repatriation of Vanessa Calva Ruiz, a Mexican national who was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla intercepted by Israeli authorities. Our diplomatic missions in Greece and Turkey, led by Ambassador Alejandro García Moreno and Consul Alberto Fierro Garza respectively, provided crucial assistance to Ms. Calva Ruiz, ensuring her safe return to Mexico to reunite with her family.

We express our gratitude to the Greek and Turkish authorities for their cooperation in this matter. The SRE assures Ms. Calva Ruiz of the necessary support and accompaniment as she navigates the aftermath of this incident, with full respect for her fundamental rights. Our representations in the region remain in close contact with the seven other Mexican nationals who were not intercepted and are reported to be safe.

Mexico unequivocally condemns the interception of the flotilla, viewing it as a flagrant violation of fundamental principles of international law, including international human rights law. We have firmly communicated to Israel, through diplomatic channels, our demand for the respect of the crew's rights, their physical and mental well-being, and their freedom of transit. Such acts cannot be tolerated under any circumstance, and Mexico stands by its commitment to upholding international legal norms and protecting its citizens abroad.
