Mexico City honors Juan Gabriel with concerts, film screenings on 10th anniversary of his death

Ten years after his death, Mexico City is celebrating the enduring legacy of Juan Gabriel, the "Divo of Juárez," with a series of events designed to honor his immense contribution to Mexican music and culture.

Fans will have multiple opportunities to connect with the artist's work. A restored version of his legendary 1990 concert at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, a landmark venue, will be screened in cinemas from August 28 to 30. This event offers a chance to relive a pivotal moment in Mexican popular music history.

Plaza Garibaldi, an emblematic location for mariachi and traditional music, will host a tribute on August 28. The event will feature Jaime Varela, an acclaimed impersonator who also performed with Juan Gabriel in 1994, ensuring an authentic homage.

Further celebrating Mexican music, a concert on September 13 at the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center will feature an orchestra and mariachi performing a medley of hits from both Juan Gabriel and fellow icon José José. This performance underscores their shared status as titans of Mexican song.

The National Lottery is also joining the commemorations with a special draw, featuring a prize of 17 million pesos. This initiative, following the recent release of a commemorative stamp, highlights Juan Gabriel's significant impact on Mexico's artistic heritage and his continued inspiration to society.
