Mexico City issues yellow alert for heavy rain and hail in eight boroughs

Eight of Mexico City's 16 boroughs are under a yellow alert due to forecasts of heavy rain and potential hail this Monday, July 27. The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) issued the alert, which is expected to be in effect throughout the afternoon and evening.

The affected boroughs include Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco. These areas are predicted to experience rainfall between 15 and 29 millimeters.

In response to the forecast, the SGIRPC has advised residents to take precautions. Recommendations include carrying umbrellas or raincoats, watering plants with collected rainwater, and ensuring that drains are clear of debris to prevent blockages. It is also advised not to pour grease into the drainage system.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, especially when encountering flooded areas or roads with significant water accumulation. The secretariat also warned of potential hazards such as fallen trees or debris washed away by the rain. Residents are advised to stay away from structures like walls, trees, and power lines that appear to be at risk of falling.

The alert aims to inform the public and encourage preparedness to mitigate potential risks associated with severe weather conditions in the capital city.
