Mexico City Police Arrest 54 Alleged Cartel Members, Seize Drugs

Authorities in Mexico City have apprehended 54 individuals suspected of belonging to the notorious drug cartels La Unión Tepito and Anti-Unión Tepito. The arrests, conducted throughout July and into early August, are part of a broader strategy by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) to combat violent criminal groups operating in the capital's central areas.

During the operations, law enforcement seized substantial amounts of illicit drugs, including 15 boxes and 941 bags of marijuana, approximately 200 doses of cocaine, and around 100 packages of methamphetamine. These confiscated substances were handed over to the Public Ministry for further investigation and processing.

Among the significant arrests was Osmar "N," allegedly a member of Anti-Unión Tepito, detained on July 16 for threatening an individual with a bladed weapon to steal their belongings. Investigations also link him to an armed assault on May 28. Another apprehension involved a minor identified as "El Niño," found with 27 bags of marijuana and reportedly involved in firearm-related injuries and belonging to Anti-Unión Tepito. Other arrests include Melchor "N," José "N," and Alfredo "N," suspected of storing and distributing drugs for La Unión Tepito, and Juan Carlos "N," linked to drug possession, a firearm, and a homicide.
