Mexico City's 2026 Vehicle Inspection for cargo and passenger transport begins August 17

Mexico City's Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) has outlined the procedures for the annual Vehicle Inspection 2026, a mandatory process for public, commercial, and private cargo transport, as well as passenger services.

The inspection consists of two main stages: a documentary review managed by Semovi and a physical-mechanical inspection conducted at authorized workshops. The documentary review phase is set to begin on Monday, August 17, 2026, and will be conducted in a staggered manner according to the final digit of vehicle license plates.

Vehicles with plates ending in 5, 6, and 7 can undergo the process from August 17 to December 11, 2026. Those with plates ending in 8, 3, and 4 have a period from August 24 to December 11. Finally, vehicles with plates ending in 1, 2, 9, and 0 can start the procedure from August 31, also concluding on December 11.

Before initiating the inspection, permit and concession holders must pay the Vehicle Inspection rights fee. The established amount for this year is 1,716 pesos, reflecting a partial tax forgiveness benefit. This payment must be made at least 72 hours prior to the start of the documentary review.

Applicants can obtain the payment form through the Secretariat of Administration and Finance portal. After payment, concessionaires or permit holders must access Semovi's system using their license plate and vehicle serial numbers. They will also need to provide a valid email address, a 10-digit phone number, and details about the vehicle's capacity for passengers or cargo. Required documents, such as official identification, a valid insurance policy, and a recent proof of address, must be digitized and uploaded in PDF format.
