Mexico national team focuses on South Korea after South Africa win

The Mexican national football team is diligently preparing for their next challenge against South Korea, just a day after securing a victory against South Africa. The team conducted a light training session focused on recovery for the players who started in their opening match.

Coach Javier Aguirre is strategizing how to fill the void left by central defender César Montes, who was sent off for an unnecessary foul late in the game against South Africa. Aguirre acknowledged the mistake but expressed confidence in finding a suitable replacement.

The atmosphere within the squad, known as 'El Tri,' is reportedly relaxed and positive. A key consideration for Aguirre is the potential absence of Montes, with Edson Álvarez emerging as a strong candidate to step into the defensive line. Álvarez, a team leader, recently saw limited playing time with his Turkish club, Fenerbahçe, but demonstrated readiness upon entering the previous match as a substitute.

The upcoming game against South Korea presents a significant test, particularly given the Asian team's known speed, which could challenge Álvarez's positional strengths. The Mexican team will continue their preparations at the Mexican Football Federation's High Performance Center before traveling to Guadalajara for the June 18th match.

Following the first round of matches in Group A, Mexico currently leads the group with three points and a superior goal difference over South Korea, who also have three points. Czech Republic and South Africa are at the bottom of the group without any points.
