Mexico's U-20s Cruise Past Antigua and Barbuda 3-0 in Olympic Qualifiers

The Mexican U-20 men's national football team began their campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics with a decisive 3-0 victory over Antigua and Barbuda on Friday. The match, held as part of the Concacaf qualifiers Group B, saw Mexico assert dominance from the outset at the Cuauhtémoc stadium in Puebla.

Hugo Camberos opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 13th minute. Mexico doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when Francisco Valenzuela finished off a play initiated from the left flank. Santiago Sandoval added a third goal just before halftime, striking with his left foot in second-half stoppage time. Despite hitting the post twice and missing other opportunities, Mexico's control of the game was evident throughout the first half.

In the second half, Antigua and Barbuda showed more initiative, sharing possession as Mexico eased its tempo. However, Mexico still created chances, with Luis Gómez and Diego Ramírez missing opportunities to extend the lead further. Antigua and Barbuda came close to pulling a goal back in the 91st minute, but Mexico's goalkeeper Sebastián Liceaga made a crucial save to preserve his team's clean sheet. Earlier in the group, Costa Rica defeated Guatemala 1-0. Mexico's next match is against Costa Rica on Monday, followed by Antigua and Barbuda facing Guatemala.
