Military pressure triggers 213% rise in terrorist surrenders – Army

The Nigerian military reported a significant 213% increase in the number of terrorists and their associates surrendering in the North-East region within a single week. This surge is attributed to sustained military operations under Operation Hadin Kai.

According to Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, the intensified ground operations, targeted attacks on terrorist positions, and disruption of logistics and supply routes are putting growing pressure on terrorist groups. This pressure is directly contributing to the increased rate of surrenders.

The development is equally indicative of the diminishing capacity of terrorist elements to retain their fighters and sustain prolonged operations.

In addition to the number of individuals surrendering, the military also reported the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other military items from two high-profile terrorist members who surrendered recently. This recovery further demonstrates the impact of sustained military pressure on the morale, cohesion, and operational capacity of the terrorist organizations.

Goni stated that the diminishing capacity of terrorist elements to retain fighters and sustain prolonged operations is evident. He described the increasing frequency of surrenders not as isolated incidents but as a cumulative effect of the military's multi-dimensional approach, which denies terrorists the freedom to maneuver, regroup, and resupply.
