Milos helicopter landing: Pilot to testify at Civil Aviation Authority

The pilot of the helicopter that landed at the scenic Sarakiniko beach on Milos island is scheduled to give an account to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) today. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, August 7.

The pilot appeared before the CAA on Monday afternoon to offer initial explanations regarding the event. A written statement detailing his position and claims about the controversial landing is expected today. Previously, the CAA had stated that neither the pilot nor the helicopter owner had responded to an initial request for explanations. Through their lawyer, they had sought a brief extension to prepare their defense.

An urgent investigation, ordered by the Aegean Court Prosecutor, is focusing on potential violations of aviation legislation. The inquiry will also examine whether the approved flight plan was followed and the role played by air traffic control. The unauthorized landing has raised questions about adherence to regulations and the proper procedures for aircraft operations in sensitive areas.
