In a story that sounds like it was pulled from a movie script, a missed field goal by a professional kicker has been credited with saving the life of a sports fan in Kentucky. Mark Toothaker was watching a game at home when a particularly bad kick caused him to laugh so hard he had a seizure. This unexpected medical emergency, however, led to the discovery of a life-threatening brain tumor.

His wife, Malory, a nurse, quickly recognized the severity of the situation and called for emergency medical services. Paramedics transported Toothaker to the hospital, where scans revealed a large tumor on the left side of his brain. The tumor was surgically removed and thankfully found to be benign, with no lasting damage reported.
