Modern Medical Technologies: How Can Innovation Be Financed?

Medical technology is advancing faster than many health systems can afford. Robotics, advanced diagnostics, digital tools and personalized therapies are creating new treatment opportunities, but their costs are forcing policymakers to reconsider how innovation reaches patients.

That challenge will drive the discussion titled “Modern Medical Technologies: How Can Innovation Be Financed?” at the Health Protection Forum, one of the main thematic areas of the Economic Forum in Karpacz. The forum has been held for 17 years and is expected to gather more than 700 experts, opinion leaders, government representatives, academics, businesses and patient organizations.

The debate will address more than the price of new technology. Participants are expected to consider how health systems can assess whether innovations work, how to divide financial risk and who should bear responsibility for introducing them. The state, public payer and private sector will all form part of that discussion.

Ewa Kurzyńska, editor in chief of “Długo i Szczęśliwe,” will moderate the session. Speakers scheduled to take part include Hubert Godziątkowski of the Polish Atopic Diseases Society, Anna Kowalczuk of the Medical Research Agency, Professor Małgorzata Myśliwiec of the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk, BioCam chief executive Maciej Wysocki, Deputy Health Minister Tomasz Maciejewski, Mateusz Sikora of the Dioscuri Center at Jagiellonian University and Dariusz Dziełak of the National Health Fund’s Public Partnership and Innovation Office.

The 35th Economic Forum will take place in Karpacz from Sept. 8 to 10, 2026. Organizers say the three-day event will feature more than 500 sessions and attract over 6,000 guests.
