Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday honored India's armed forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas, expressing the nation's deep gratitude for their "extraordinary courage" and commitment to securing the country.

In a message shared on X, Modi emphasized that the soldiers' valor in the face of formidable challenges serves as an "enduring source of pride" for India. "Their bravery in the face of the most formidable conditions will forever remain a source of national pride," he stated.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks the anniversary of India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. The conflict began when intruders crossed the Line of Control, aiming to disrupt a vital national highway. India responded with 'Operation Vijay,' successfully reclaiming posts and driving out infiltrators after more than two months of intense fighting in harsh terrain.
