Monarch Compels Politicians to Swear An Oath to Maintain the Peace In Saturday’s Guber Poll

In Nigeria's Osun State, a traditional ruler in Ibokun town took an unusual step to ensure peace during the gubernatorial election. Diran Odeyemi, the National Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed that the monarch compelled politicians to swear a traditional oath for maintaining peace.

Odeyemi stated that this traditional pledge is linked to the current peaceful atmosphere observed in Ibokun, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area. He noted that the election process, including the arrival of sensitive materials and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, proceeded smoothly in the town's 10 polling units.

Assessing the voter turnout in Ibokun, Odeyemi expressed satisfaction with the peaceful exercise. The measure highlights a local effort to prevent electoral violence and ensure a fair process, with the traditional oath serving as a significant factor in maintaining order.
