Montevideo Mayor's Disapproval Rating Drops Amidst Improved City Cleanliness Perception

Montevideo Mayor Mario Bergara's public standing has improved, with his disapproval rating dropping nine points and approval rising one point in a June survey by Equipos Consultores. However, his overall net approval remains negative at -16, with 27% approving and 43% disapproving of his performance. The survey also revealed a general improvement in the perception of the city's management. Disapproval of the commune's functioning decreased from 59% to 51%, while approval rose from 22% to 27%. The percentage of residents who neither approve nor disapprove increased significantly. Key city services have seen positive shifts in public opinion. Cleanliness, a long-standing issue, improved notably, with disapproval falling from 72% to 61% and approval rising from 12% to 16%. Garbage collection also saw a marked improvement, with disapproval dropping from 66% to 51% and approval increasing from 23% to 28%. Public transportation also received a more favorable assessment, with approval climbing to 49% from 39%, while disapproval fell to 26% from 38%. Street repair and traffic management also showed slight improvements, though they still maintain negative balances. Bergara highlighted the positive reception of a new intradomiciliary garbage container system, which has an 85% approval rating in areas where it has been implemented.
