Moraes’s attempt to pull the entire Supreme Court into the dispute draws concern from Mendonça’s allies

A group of ministers on Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court sees Alexandre de Moraes’s attempt to open an investigation into André Mendonça for abuse of authority as an effort to draw the entire court into their dispute.

The assessment has generated internal discomfort at the STF, especially among magistrates close to Mendonça. The investigation was announced on April 3.

The episode has therefore widened beyond the two justices named in the measure, according to the assessment cited by Folha de S.Paulo. Some members of the court view Moraes’s action as an attempt to involve the institution as a whole.
