More than 1,000 tons of materials launch home reconstruction in Antioquia

More than 1,000 tons of construction materials are being used to repair homes damaged by the earthquake that struck Antioquia on Aug. 10. Work has begun in several municipalities in the department’s southwest.

Repairs are concentrated in Caramanta, Hispania, Tarso and Valparaíso, where families have started restoring their homes with supplies sent by the Government of Antioquia and logistical support from local administrations. The materials were distributed through the Virtual Materials Bank operated by the Antioquia Housing Company, VIVA.

The deliveries include cement, bricks, adobe blocks, roof tiles, timber and steel rods. They are intended to strengthen roofs and masonry. The institutional plan covers 704 interventions in Caramanta, Hispania, Betania, Andes, Tarso, Valparaíso and Salgar.

The response combines departmental material deliveries with local labor organized by municipal governments. Residents affected by the earthquake are also taking part in repairing their homes. The effort is coordinated with the Departmental Administrative Office for Disaster Risk Management, DAGRAN, and municipal risk-management councils.

Authorities say more than 3,300 homes suffered structural damage. Southwestern and eastern Antioquia recorded the highest concentration of damage, prompting continued emergency operations, updated assessments and priority aid deliveries. The broader response includes both immediate humanitarian assistance and technical rehabilitation of homes with damaged roofs and masonry.
