Morning lows of 17°C, highs of 33°C expected; East Coast to see up to 60mm rain

South Korea is bracing for a day of significant temperature fluctuations on Wednesday, with morning temperatures dipping to the mid-to-high teens in some areas while daytime highs soar to a sweltering 33 degrees Celsius. The weather forecast indicates a mix of continued heat and localized rainfall.

Morning temperatures are expected to range between 17 and 24 degrees Celsius, offering some relief from the recent heatwaves in certain regions. However, the afternoon will see temperatures climb, with highs reaching 26 to 33 degrees Celsius across the country. While morning lows may be similar to or slightly lower than average, daytime temperatures are predicted to be around or slightly above seasonal norms.

Rain is anticipated to fall along the Gangwon Province's East Coast and mountainous areas starting in the morning, and in the Gyeongbuk East Coast and its northeastern mountainous regions from the evening. The expected rainfall amounts range from 20 to 60 mm in the northern East Coast areas, with 10 to 40 mm forecast for the southern Gyeongbuk East Coast.

Despite the rain, high humidity is expected to persist, particularly in areas where the rain ceases. This could lead to a return of muggy conditions and the possibility of tropical nights – where overnight minimum temperatures stay above 25 degrees Celsius – in urban centers and coastal locations. The Korea Meteorological Administration advises caution regarding strong waves and winds in various maritime zones, including the Jeju, Southern, and Yellow Seas, with potential for high waves and strong winds prompting the possibility of a storm warning.
