Morocco's RNI Party Launches Southern Tour Ahead of Elections

Morocco's National Rally of Independents (RNI) party is gearing up for a significant organizational tour across the southern regions of the country. The initiative, scheduled to begin next week, is a strategic move to bolster the party's presence and prepare for the upcoming legislative elections on September 23.

The tour will be spearheaded by RNI party leader Mohamed Charki, accompanied by Aziz Akhannouch. It is set to cover the regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, and Guelmim-Oued Noun. During the tour, the RNI delegation will hold a series of meetings with parliamentarians, elected officials, community leaders, and local party coordinators.

The primary objectives of these meetings are to evaluate the party's organizational readiness on the ground, assess its current standing, and discuss crucial aspects of the electoral campaign. This includes potential candidacies and strategic alliances, aiming to finalize the party's roadmap before the official election process commences.

This RNI tour occurs amidst a politically charged atmosphere in the southern provinces, marked by intense inter-party competition and recruitment efforts. Recently, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) reportedly strengthened its position in Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab by attracting several political figures from the Istiqlal party. In response, the Istiqlal party has been working to consolidate its ranks, notably securing the allegiance of parliamentarian M'barek Hamia from RNI and former parliamentarian Mohamed Boubker, signaling a dynamic electoral landscape.

The RNI's focus on the southern regions underscores their importance as key electoral constituencies, both in terms of representation and political symbolism. This pre-election maneuvering highlights the early mobilization phase of major parties, anticipating a highly competitive electoral contest in these territories as alliances shift and candidate lists are finalized.
