Morocco tops WAFCON group after draw; Algeria also advances

Morocco secured the top spot in Group A of the WAFCON tournament, remaining unbeaten and without conceding a goal, after a hard-fought goalless draw against Senegal in Rabat. Despite the draw, the Atlas Lionesses finished with seven points, enough to edge out their rivals.

The match saw Morocco's Yasmin Mrabet miss a crucial opportunity from the penalty spot twice in the second half. Senegal's goalkeeper, Adji Ndiaye, was the hero for her team, saving both penalties in the 69th minute and a subsequent retake, keeping the score level.

Meanwhile, Algeria clinched second place in the group and a quarter-final berth with a 2-0 victory over Kenya. Captain Marine Dafeur opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a long-range free-kick, and Lynda Bendris doubled Algeria's lead later in the half after capitalizing on a defensive error.

Senegal finished third in the group with four points, while Kenya ended at the bottom without any points. Morocco's performance, marked by their strong defense, has set a positive tone as they advance to the knockout stages.
