MRSM founder passes away

Abdul Wahab Alwi, the revered founder of Malaysia's Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) schools, widely known as 'Bapa MRSM' (Father of MRSM), has passed away at the age of 84. His death was announced early this morning by the Persatuan Bekas Pelajar MRSM Malaysia (Ansara), the association of MRSM alumni.

Ansara described Abdul Wahab's passing as a profound loss, recognizing his immense contributions to educational development and the creation of pathways for generations of Malaysian youth. The association highlighted that MRSM, born from his vision, has nurtured thousands of alumni who now contribute significantly to various fields, including government, security, medicine, engineering, academia, business, and the professional community.

The association conveyed their condolences to his family, praying for strength and acceptance of his charitable deeds for religion, race, and country.

The funeral prayers were held at Masjid Raja Bendahara Tengku Bandar Shah in Denai Alam, Shah Alam, followed by burial at the Elmina Muslim Cemetery. The Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, also expressed his condolences, acknowledging Abdul Wahab's pivotal role as a former Director of MARA's Training Division in conceiving and establishing MRSM. He emphasized that Abdul Wahab's legacy in pioneering education and shaping the future of the nation's children will be forever etched in memory.
