Muhammadiyah Urges Friday Infak for NTT Earthquake Victims

Muhammadiyah, a prominent Islamic organization in Indonesia, has called on its followers and the general public to contribute to earthquake relief efforts in Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). The organization is encouraging the collection of infak, or charitable donations, specifically from Friday prayers, to aid those affected by the recent earthquake.

This initiative is detailed in a directive from the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, outlining the collection process for humanitarian aid for the earthquake victims. The directive, issued from Yogyakarta on August 20, 2026, specified that the infak collection would take place on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman, Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, stated that this donation drive is a manifestation of the organization's commitment to assisting communities facing hardship. "This is part of Muhammadiyah's effort to be present and help our brothers and sisters who are experiencing disaster," Agus said, emphasizing that the Friday infak represents a tangible expression of concern from Muhammadiyah members and the wider community.

The collection and distribution of aid will involve various Muhammadiyah entities, including its business units and mosque administrators. To ensure efficiency and impact, the collected funds will be channeled through Lazismu and the Disaster Resilience Agency (LRB) at different levels. Agus highlighted the importance of coordination for maximizing the benefit of the collected resources, embodying the spirit of "One Muhammadiyah One Response" for a unified humanitarian effort.
