Muhyiddin Urges Two-Day Extension for Tabung Haji RCI Report Debate

Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called for the special parliamentary session to debate the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji to be extended by at least two days. The session is currently scheduled for August 11, 2026.

Muhyiddin believes a longer period is necessary for more Members of Parliament to contribute to the debate with well-reasoned and substantive arguments. He stressed the importance of this discussion for improving Tabung Haji's management, governance, and performance as the primary body managing investments and Hajj pilgrimage affairs for Malaysian Muslims.

"I propose that the Special Parliamentary Session to debate the Tabung Haji RCI Report scheduled for August 11, 2026, be extended for at least two days," Muhyiddin stated in a press release. "This is to allow more Members of Parliament to participate in the debate by presenting sound and substantive arguments."

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had previously announced that the special session would take place on August 11, following agreement from the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul. Muhyiddin, who also leads Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), welcomed the government's decision to make the RCI report public.

He stated that public disclosure of the report would allow citizens to understand and fairly assess the commission's findings. However, Muhyiddin also noted that certain aspects of the report require further clarification from the government, particularly concerning the forensic audit of 14 problematic investments that allegedly caused billions of ringgit in losses for Tabung Haji.
