NAB Recovers 80 Acres of Government Land Illegally Allotted to Bahria Town

In a significant move against land corruption, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has successfully recovered 80 acres of prime government land in Hyderabad, illegally allotted to the prominent real estate developer Bahria Town. This action underscores NAB's commitment to reclaiming state assets that have been misappropriated.

The recovered land, situated in the Gulshan-i-Sarmast housing scheme, boasts a market value of Rs6 billion. Shockingly, Bahria Town had obtained possession through an illegal allotment for a mere Rs383 million, a sum that was subsequently defaulted. The original purpose of this land was designated for the establishment of a university, highlighting the developer's deviation from the agreed terms.

The management of Bahria Town got the possession of the land through the illegal allotment against the meagre amount of Rs383 million, which was also defaulted.

Following NAB's intervention and coordination with the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA), the allotment was officially cancelled, and the partially paid amount was forfeited. This decisive action serves as a stern warning to entities engaging in illicit land acquisition. The matter is further compounded by recent developments, including an accountability court issuing perpetual arrest warrants against Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz and his associates in a related land grab case initiated in 2025.

This recovery is part of a broader investigation into alleged corruption involving the conversion and transfer of government land for Bahria Town projects. The case implicates senior PPP leaders and government officials, pointing to a systemic issue of land grabbing that NAB is determined to root out. The successful reclamation of this valuable asset is a victory for transparency and accountability in Pakistan.

Accordingly, the matter was taken up with Hyderabad Development Authority and as a result of efforts and intervention of NAB, the HDA cancelled the allotment and possession with forfeiture of the partially paid amount by Bahria Town.
