Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Takes on Bigger Role in New DC Universe

Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner is solidifying his presence in James Gunn's new DC Universe, evolving from a recurring character into a more prominent figure. After his initial appearance as the sarcastic Green Lantern in 'Superman,' where he was part of the Justice Gang, Gardner is set to feature in multiple upcoming projects.

Fillion's character has already appeared in the second season of 'Peacemaker' and is slated to return in the HBO series 'Lanterns,' which will focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. However, Gardner's next appearance will venture into animation. Tom King, the writer and showrunner for the upcoming 'Mister Miracle' animated series, confirmed that Fillion will reprise his role.

King expressed enthusiasm for Fillion's performance, noting that the actor's energetic portrayal fits the character perfectly across different mediums. This casting strategy aligns with DC Studios' approach of having actors reprise their roles in both live-action and animated projects, as seen with 'Creature Commandos.' Fillion himself is no stranger to voicing Green Lantern, having previously portrayed Hal Jordan in several DC animated films.

Fillion's growing involvement hints at a potentially larger role for Guy Gardner in the evolving DC Universe. In the comics, Gardner was a key member of the Justice League International, a team that included characters like Mister Miracle, Blue Beetle, and Booster Gold, and was founded by Maxwell Lord. Given that Maxwell Lord is already established in Gunn's DCU, Gardner's expanded presence could pave the way for a version of the Justice League International to be developed, rather than a traditional Justice League.
