National schools basketball championship tips off tomorrow

The Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship 2026 is set to tip off tomorrow in Suva, bringing together the nation's top young basketball talent for three days of intense competition. This prestigious national championship follows successful zone qualifiers held last month and will feature 70 teams vying for honors across the Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 age categories.

Organized by Basketball Fiji with the crucial support of Vodafone Fiji, the tournament promises a display of skill, sportsmanship, and school pride. Basketball Fiji Chief Operations Officer William Peter highlighted the championship as the culmination of months of dedicated preparation and competition. "This national championship represents the ultimate reward for the hard work displayed during the qualifiers," Peter stated, emphasizing the significance of the event for the participating students.

Peter also expressed optimism about the rising standard of play, noting that the level of competition elevates each year as schools battle for coveted national titles. This continuous improvement underscores the growing passion and dedication to basketball within Fiji's educational institutions. Vodafone Fiji Regional Chief Marketing Officer Rajnesh Prasad reiterated the company's commitment to youth development through sports.

The championship will run from tomorrow until the 29th, promising exciting matchups and a celebration of youth basketball in Fiji.
