NBA President-elect pledges partnership with First Lady for vulnerable people

Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, stressed the critical role of mutual support among women in overcoming obstacles and realizing their ambitions for greater representation. She shared these views during a meeting with Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the President-Elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), at her office. Tinubu highlighted that Badejo-Okusanya's election sends a powerful message to women, demonstrating that dedication and collaboration can lead to significant achievements.

"You should set the bar and make room for other women coming behind you. This victory means a lot for women in general," Tinubu stated. She noted the increasing presence of women in high-ranking judicial positions, including the Chief Judge and the President of the Court of Appeal, and now the President-Elect of the NBA, as evidence of women's growing success. The First Lady expressed her delight at the visit, calling it a memorable occasion for her office and offering her prayers for a successful tenure for Badejo-Okusanya.

Tinubu also commended Foluke Dada-Lawanson, another female candidate for NBA President, for withdrawing her candidacy and supporting Badejo-Okusanya, describing it as a remarkable display of sportsmanship. Earlier, Badejo-Okusanya had praised Tinubu for her accomplishments through the Renewed Hope Initiative, particularly her impact on the lives of the most vulnerable. "Your job with the RHI, in addition to being the First Lady, looks like a full-time job. You have set an example for others to emulate. We thank you for all that you have been doing. These are so much," she said.

The NBA President-Elect assured the First Lady of the association's commitment to collaborating with her and the Renewed Hope Initiative to offer pro bono legal services to those in need. Badejo-Okusanya explained that the visit aimed to share the joy of her election, a milestone achievement as the first woman directly elected and the second female president in the NBA's history, occurring on July 19, 2026. The NBA will partner with the First Lady's initiative to support vulnerable populations.
