NDC names party headquarters in Accra after founder Jerry John Rawlings

Accra, Ghana – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially named its party headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, after its founder, the late Jerry John Rawlings. This significant move honors the former president and marks a key event in the party's calendar.

The naming ceremony is part of a series of commemorative events organized by the NDC and the J.J. Rawlings Foundation to celebrate what would have been Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings' 79th birthday on Monday, June 22, 2026. The overarching theme for the commemoration is “From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,” aiming to highlight his enduring impact on Ghana's political landscape.

The day's events began with the official naming of the party headquarters and the unveiling of a bust of Rawlings at 9 a.m. The occasion was addressed by the party's leader, President John Dramani Mahama, alongside other prominent party figures. This ceremony underscores Rawlings' foundational role in the NDC's history and his continued influence.

Following the headquarters' dedication, a lecture and exhibition will take place at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Ghanaian academic and lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata is slated as the keynote speaker. Other notable speakers include Dr. Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government, and Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for Information and National Security. The NDC has extended an invitation to the public, party members, supporters, and cadres to participate in these events, celebrating Rawlings' birthday and honoring his life and legacy.
