Nea Smyrni: Victim's and Perpetrator's Daughters Share Devastating Accounts After Murder-Suicide

A shocking incident of femicide has occurred in Nea Smyrni, where a 48-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his 45-year-old ex-partner before committing suicide. The couple's families are now grappling with profound grief and the devastating consequences of the violence.

The victim's daughter recounted that her mother had ended the relationship in late February, citing the man's extreme jealousy and troubling behavior. She expressed her distress, stating, "I knew my mother was in a relationship recently. But she told me she had broken up with him at the end of February. She was troubled by this man's behavior because he constantly caused her problems. She told me he was excessively jealous."

The perpetrator's daughter, speaking through her own shock and sorrow, conveyed the complex emotions of losing her father while confronting his actions. "I am devastated by this whole event, I can't believe my father did this. He is my father and I will miss him, but on the other hand, I cannot overlook that he has done wrong, that he became a murderer. He took a person's life and deprived a girl my age of her mother," she stated.

She added, "I am psychologically very unwell because of this whole situation, I bear no responsibility for anything and I sympathize with the pain of the other girl. In essence, we are the victims. I truly wish for this whole story to end here, for us to calm down and for you to respect our pain and for us all to mourn the people we love in our own way."

Reports indicate the 48-year-old assailant had apparently waited for the woman outside her apartment building. CCTV footage suggests he kicked her twice before drawing a pistol and firing. The first shot missed as the woman instinctively raised her hands, hitting a glass door, but the second proved fatal, striking her in the head.
