Nekmat Profit Reaches RM25 Million - Mohamad Sabu

The National Fishermen's Association (Nekmat) achieved a substantial profit of RM25 million last year, marking a significant increase from the RM11 million recorded in 2024. This financial success underscores Nekmat's growing capacity to generate revenue and deliver benefits to the nation's fishing communities.

Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, highlighted this achievement during the opening of Nekmat's Annual General Meeting. He stated that the profit "proves Nekmat's capability to generate profits and benefit the fishing community in the country," adding that it demonstrates "the efficiency of management and high commitment in advancing the country's fisheries sector."

Further demonstrating its commitment to development, Nekmat's management has put forth proposals for projects and development initiatives across fishermen's associations nationwide. These proposals involve tens of millions of ringgit and are slated for discussion with the Ministry of Finance as part of the upcoming 2027 Budget deliberations.

In line with its increased profitability, Nekmat announced a dividend distribution of 15 percent to state fishermen's associations. This is a notable increase from the previous nine percent distribution. Abdul Hamid Bahari, Chairman of Nekmat's Board of Directors, attributed this rise in distribution to the expansion of Nekmat's activities, including diesel sales, ice production, shrimp farming, and transportation services.
