NELFUND impact undeniable, VC hails Tinubu

The Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, is experiencing a tangible positive impact from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), a flagship initiative of President Bola Tinubu's administration. Dr. Mikhail Akinde, the Acting Vice Chancellor, expressed profound gratitude for the fund, which has provided crucial financial support to students facing economic hardships. The institution has already disbursed approximately N32 million, enabling 233 students to continue their academic journeys without the looming threat of dropping out due to financial constraints.

I can tell you that NELFUND is actually impacting the lives of students. In the exams we were about to conclude, many students would have been denied the opportunity to sit for them. We captured the names of those already registered under NELFUND, and they were able to write their exams.

This intervention by NELFUND directly addresses a critical challenge in Nigeria's higher education sector, where financial barriers often impede access and completion of studies. Dr. Akinde's testimony underscores the program's effectiveness in ensuring that deserving students are not denied the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills, thereby contributing to national development.

Beyond student support, the university is actively pursuing technological advancement and economic empowerment. The exhibition of locally fabricated machines, ranging from solar-powered tricycles to palm oil digesters, showcases the ingenuity of its staff and students. The university is now actively seeking partnerships with investors to scale up the production of these machines, a move that promises to reduce reliance on imported technology and generate much-needed employment opportunities.
