Nelson Braillard, world champion with the Swiss team: "Powerchair Hockey is a formidable showcase for inclusive sport"

Nelson Braillard, captain of the Swiss national team, recently led his squad to a World Championship title in Powerchair Hockey. The victory took place in Varese, Italy, marking a significant achievement for Braillard and the sport.

Braillard's commitment to the sport is evident in his demanding schedule. He travels 300 kilometers from his home in Lausanne to play for a club in the Italian first league, participating in both competitions and training sessions. Upon returning, he immediately travels to Bern for further training with one of Switzerland's top Powerchair Hockey teams. This dual-licensing allows him to compete at a high level in multiple locations.

Powerchair Hockey, a technically demanding sport played in electric wheelchairs, is still largely unknown to the general public. Braillard, a prominent figure in the sport, highlighted its importance, stating, "Powerchair Hockey is a formidable showcase for inclusive sport." His leadership and the team's success aim to bring greater visibility to this mixed-gender sport, practiced by individuals with disabilities, often referred to as PSH (persons with reduced mobility).
