Nepal floods: 165 dead, 826 missing as search continues

Search and rescue operations resumed early Thursday morning in Nepal's flood-affected regions, as the grim toll of the disaster continues to climb. Government figures released by Thursday morning confirm that 165 bodies have been recovered, while a staggering 826 people remain missing.

The recovered bodies have been found across a wide geographical area, indicating the widespread impact of the floods. Significant numbers were found in Chitwan (65), Dhading (27), and Nawalparasi East (26), with others located in Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Gorkha, Tanahun, and Nawalparasi West.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate the missing, a group that tragically includes 44 Nepali Army personnel, 28 Nepal Police officers, and 13 Armed Police Force members. A substantial number of the missing are also tourists, numbering 579, alongside 161 residents of the affected Rasuwa district and one individual from Nuwakot.

A multiparty meeting is currently underway to strategize and enhance the effectiveness of ongoing rescue and relief operations. The focus remains on searching river corridors and surrounding areas, as the nation grapples with the devastating consequences of the severe flooding.
