Prithvi Highway to reopen by Thursday afternoon

Efforts are underway to reopen the vital Prithvi Highway, which connects Kathmandu and Muglin, by Thursday afternoon. The road has been impassable due to significant mud and debris accumulation following recent floods in the Rasuwa region.

Shubharaj Neupane, deputy director general and spokesperson for the Department of Roads, confirmed that crews are working diligently to clear the extensive mud deposits. "The road from Muglin to Galaudi and from Kathmandu to Baireni is clear. Around 13 kilometers of road between Baireni and Galaudi have been covered with mud at several locations," Neupane stated. The sheer volume of mud has made assessing the road's underlying condition challenging.

Despite work being halted temporarily by rainfall on Wednesday night, operations resumed early Thursday morning. Approximately 15 pieces of equipment have been deployed since Wednesday night to expedite the clearing process. The highway sustained damage at multiple points after the Bhotekoshi River overflowed on Wednesday.

Authorities are aiming to have the road fully accessible again by Thursday afternoon, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The reopening is crucial for restoring transportation links and facilitating the movement of goods and people between the capital and other regions.
