NERDC disowns fake curriculum fund appeal, warns public against scams

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has issued a strong disclaimer against a fraudulent document circulating publicly, which falsely claims to seek financial support for the production and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum for the 2026/2027 academic session. Professor Salisu Shehu, the Executive Secretary of NERDC, described the purported correspondence as fictitious, frivolous, and entirely unauthorized.

Our attention has been drawn to fictitious and frivolous documents and correspondences purported to emanate from the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, requesting financial support for the production, printing, and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum covering the 2026/2027 academic session.

Shehu urged government agencies, educational institutions, development partners, and the general public to completely disregard any such letters or documents requesting financial assistance. He clarified that NERDC has not initiated any communication seeking funds for the curriculum's production, printing, or nationwide distribution under any guise. The council emphasized its commitment to maintaining diligence in official communications and safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria's national curriculum.

NERDC has reportedly made adequate arrangements for the production, printing, dissemination, and distribution of the revised curriculum through the appropriate federal and state education authorities and departments. Therefore, the council stressed that there is no need for any institution or individual to solicit financial support on its behalf for this exercise. All authentic information regarding the Revised Basic Education Curriculum will be communicated exclusively through NERDC’s official channels.

This disclaimer comes at a time when the Federal Government is actively pursuing reforms to enhance learning outcomes and reposition Nigeria's basic education system as part of its Renewed Hope Agenda. NERDC, as the agency responsible for developing and reviewing the national curriculum, recently concluded a review aimed at aligning it with emerging national priorities, including foundational literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
