His elder son, Yair, 35, has spent considerable time in Miami since early 2024, reportedly under Shin Bet protection. Yair's presence in the United States has sparked controversy in Israel regarding taxpayer-funded security costs. Some residents in South Florida have also expressed concerns that his presence could make the area a target for Iranian adversaries.

Following Netanyahu's public statement, Israeli journalist Amit Segal noted on his Telegram channel that information about a suspected assassination attempt had been known for months but was subject to a gag order.
