Network School makes no appeal to resume operations in Johor

Network School, located in Forest City, Iskandar Puteri, has been shut down and will not be allowed to resume operations, according to Johor state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd. Jafni Md. Shukor. The school, founded by Balaji Srinivasan, did not file any appeals with the state government or local authorities to continue its operations.

At the MBIP level, there were two offenses. One, advertising did not comply with the conditions, and second, the license applied for was different from what was actually operating, thus violating the license conditions. That is why we terminated and canceled it.

Mohd. Jafni explained that the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) identified two violations: non-compliant advertising and operating with a license that differed from the actual reality of its activities. These breaches led to the termination and cancellation of the school's operating permit. He stated that if the school were to re-establish itself by forming a new company or fulfilling the required conditions, their application would be processed normally. However, as of now, no appeal has been lodged, and the standard 14-day period for such appeals has passed without action.

We canceled it outright; if they were to establish another company or fulfill the prescribed conditions again, of course, we would process it as usual. But so far, there has been no appeal. We usually give a period of 14 days for them to come forward to us. If they don't come, it means we cancel.

The decision follows a directive from the Acting Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, on July 18, instructing the state government and local authorities to revoke licenses or permits for companies violating laws, license conditions, or regulations. Consequently, MBIP seized and halted the school's operations on a recent Wednesday after issuing a license cancellation notice.

Mohd. Jafni emphasized that the Johor state government actively encourages foreign investment, citing last year's RM113 billion in foreign investment as evidence of its investor-friendly policies. However, he stressed that all investments must comply with local laws and regulations. "We are the number one state in terms of receiving the highest investment," he said, adding that while the state's systems and policies are welcoming, investors who breach established conditions are not encouraged.
