New Petaling Jaya Mayor Pledges to Prioritize Flood Issues

Flash floods, a persistent problem plaguing Petaling Jaya residents, will be the top priority for the city's new administration, Mayor Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi assured.

Mohd Yazid stated that flood issues are critical, touching upon the community's sensitivities and emotions, thus demanding immediate intervention and solutions. The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has already initiated preliminary measures, such as establishing 'OSD Points' in affected areas like Medan Selera Lorong 3, and plans to extend repair work to other identified locations.

MBPJ has previously ordered the implementation of 'OSD Points' in affected areas like Medan Selera Lorong 3. We will look at other areas with the same problem for immediate action.

Beyond flood mitigation, the mayor, who brings extensive experience from previous administrative roles, highlighted that public safety and the proper functioning of public facilities will be primary criteria for addressing resident complaints. He stressed that complaints, whether from residents' associations or local community groups, would be assessed based on actual field conditions, with issues concerning infrastructure safety and functionality being prioritized for rapid resolution.

Mohd Yazid also indicated a willingness to conduct unannounced site visits to personally assess the quality of services and cleanliness within MBPJ's jurisdiction. "I might not be in disguise, but I like to visit areas without prior notice for spot checks," he explained, aiming to ensure the city's infrastructure and cleanliness remain at the highest standard.
