Nicholas Hoult Joins HBO's 'Harry Potter' Season 2 as Gilderoy Lockhart

British actor Nicholas Hoult is reportedly set to join the cast of HBO's upcoming "Harry Potter" television series, taking on the role of the flamboyant wizard Gilderoy Lockhart in the second season. The news, reported by Deadline, places Hoult in a significant role within the adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved books.

Hoult is no stranger to major franchises, recently portraying Lex Luthor in the upcoming "Superman" film, "Superman: Legacy," and is expected to reprise the role in "Superman & Lois: Legacy." His casting as Lockhart, a character known for his vanity and magical prowess, marks a notable addition to the "Harry Potter" ensemble.

Gilderoy Lockhart, a central figure in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," is famously a fame-obsessed wizard who mastered spells to manipulate memories. He was recruited by Headmaster Dumbledore to serve as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Filming for the second season of the "Harry Potter" series is scheduled to commence this fall. This follows the planned Christmas premiere of the first season, which will adapt "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."
