Nigeria: Adegbonmire Secures APC Candidacy for Ondo Central, Urges Party Unity

Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidacy for the Ondo Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections. Following his emergence, Adegbonmire issued a strong call for unity within the party, dedicating his victory to the people of Ondo Central and the APC's broader goal of winning the upcoming polls.

I dedicate this victory to the people of Ondo Central, to the leadership of our party, and to the cause of a united APC marching confidently toward 2027.

In a statement released in Akure, Adegbonmire stressed that the primary contest was a "test of ideas and capacity, not a declaration of enmity." He explicitly stated that he held "no grudge against any person who stood on the other side" and urged his supporters to avoid bitterness. His message focused on bringing all factions together, asserting that "this victory is wide enough to shelter everyone who shares our vision for Ondo Central."

I do not approach this moment with triumphalism. I approach it with the same sense of duty that has guided my years at the Bar and in public service.

The senator acknowledged the role of President Bola Tinubu, describing his leadership of the APC as "steady" and commending his efforts in ensuring disputes were resolved through established democratic processes. Adegbonmire also praised the party's National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and the National Working Committee for their "thorough and fair review process." He further extended appreciation to the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his "quiet diplomacy and commitment to peace" within the Ondo State chapter of the APC.
