Nigeria honours Benin Republic at 66th Independence anniversary celebration

Nigeria joined the Republic of Benin in celebrating its 66th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the deep-rooted friendship and regional cooperation between the neighboring West African countries. The vibrant celebration, held at the Amazone Square in Cotonou, showcased impressive military parades and engaging cultural performances. A Nigerian contingent, invited by the Beninese government, delivered a standout performance during the event. Led by Brigadier General Ayokunle Olufemi Owolabi, the contingent executed a ceremonial march past with remarkable discipline and precision, earning widespread applause. The highlight for many was a silent drill display by the Nigerian Army, which demonstrated exceptional synchronization and advanced arms-handling skills. Nigeria's Ambassador to Benin, Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony. The Nigerian Army stated that its participation reinforced the cordial relationship between the two nations, emphasizing a shared commitment to strengthening military diplomacy, promoting regional cooperation, and advancing peace and stability across West Africa.
