Nigeria police chief inspects 23 barracks and pledges better welfare

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, inspected 23 police barracks across the country as the police leadership reviewed the living conditions of officers and their families.

The inspection covered residential quarters and other welfare facilities. Disu spoke with personnel and residents and personally assessed existing infrastructure, according to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer CSP Aniete Iniedu.

The exercise highlighted welfare challenges requiring urgent rehabilitation, sustained maintenance and increased investment. Disu said decent accommodation and functional welfare infrastructure were essential to personnel morale, wellbeing and effective service delivery.

He assured officers that the needs identified during the inspection would receive appropriate attention. Disu also called for greater administrative responsiveness to the accommodation and welfare problems facing officers and their families, saying personnel who protect citizens and property deserve safe and suitable living conditions.

The police chief said welfare would remain a central part of efforts to build a motivated, professional and effective force. The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue investing in accommodation, welfare infrastructure and other support systems while strengthening officers’ capacity to meet their constitutional responsibilities.
