Police arrest 10 suspected vandals and recover cables in Abuja

Police in Abuja arrested 10 suspected vandals during separate operations in Kubwa, Wuye and the National Mosque area, recovering armoured cables and a damaged solar-powered street light.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command said the arrests formed part of efforts to protect critical public infrastructure. According to police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, a patrol team from Kubwa Division found five people allegedly vandalising armoured cables near Bazango-Kubwa on September 2, 2026. They were identified as Goodname Oriarebun, Timothy Donald, Ayo Buli, Emmanuel Elijah and Christian David.

A Wuye patrol team separately arrested Moses Luka while he was allegedly digging out armoured cables along the road between Magic Land and the National Stadium. In another operation, a Wuse surveillance team arrested Musa Abdullahi, Suleiman Idris, Aliyu Isa and Muhammed Abdulrahman near the National Mosque. Police said the four had allegedly cut down a solar-powered street light to remove its components.

All 10 suspects remained in police custody as investigations continued. Adeh said officers were working to identify and arrest other alleged syndicate members, including people suspected of receiving stolen public infrastructure. The police said the suspects would be charged in court after the investigations conclude.

FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi commended the teams for their vigilance. The command urged residents to report suspicious people or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
