Nigeria Police Mourn 10 Officers Killed in Bandit Clash

The Nigeria Police Force is mourning the loss of 10 officers who died in a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The encounter, which occurred on Monday, also claimed the lives of two civilians and left two other officers injured.

Tragically, ten Police personnel lost their lives in the encounter, while two others sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention. Two civilians also lost their lives during the engagement.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police intercepted the suspected bandits, who were moving between Zamfara and Kebbi states. During the ensuing clash, at least 17 bandits were neutralized, and four of their motorcycles were destroyed. The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed these figures.

Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the officers' deaths as a "painful loss to the Force and the nation." He emphasized that they "paid the ultimate price while defending the people they swore to protect." Disu assured the families that the officers' sacrifice would not be forgotten and would be honored by the Force.

The remains of the fallen officers have been moved to Birnin Kebbi. The police have deployed additional personnel to the area to sustain operations and pursue the fleeing bandits. The Force reiterated its commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and supporting the bereaved families and injured personnel.
