Nigerian Colonel Accused of Coup Plot Claims Patriotism Amidst National Woes

A Nigerian Army Colonel, Mohammed Ma’aji, accused of involvement in an alleged plot to destabilize President Bola Tinubu's government, has broken his silence. Ma’aji asserts that his alleged actions were driven by patriotism and deep frustration over the country's deteriorating conditions.

Meanwhile, political maneuvering continues as opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are reportedly exploring an alliance. However, supporters of President Tinubu's re-election bid, operating under the Renewed Hope Project 2027, have dismissed these potential alliances as posing no significant threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adding to the national concerns, the Methodist Church Nigeria has issued a strong call to the Federal Government. The church urged more decisive measures to combat worsening insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, corruption, and declining living standards. They warned that despite increased government revenues, ordinary Nigerians have yet to see meaningful improvements in their welfare.
