Nigerian troops battle hundreds of bandits on Kebbi-Zamfara border

Nigerian Army troops are locked in a fierce gun battle with hundreds of armed bandits along the Kebbi-Zamfara border, according to Lieutenant Colonel Olayinka Osoba, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations.

Osoba stated that over 200 bandits, mounted on motorcycles, had mobilized to attack communities in Kebbi State. However, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, intercepted them in an effort to repel the planned assault.

The operation is currently ongoing, and Osoba declined to provide specific details that could compromise the military engagement. He assured that further information would be released after the intense fighting concludes.

The Army spokesman confirmed that ground troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, are actively engaging the bandits. The bandits were reportedly attempting to access unsuspecting villagers in areas such as Gadar Zaima in Zuru Emirate, with spillover attacks also reported in Onashi and Mai Rairai from Zamfara State.
