Nigerians have accepted Makinde as alternative to Tinubu - APM

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has declared Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the primary alternative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asserting his growing national acceptance ahead of the 2027 general elections. APM's National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, stated in Abuja that the party's ongoing cross-party discussions are successfully building a strong opposition alliance. He indicated that thousands of PDP members in Ekiti State recently gathered to reaffirm their support for Makinde and collaboration with APM for the 2027 election, while maintaining their PDP identity.

APM’s cross-party talks are yielding results, making the platform the fastest-growing political alliance for opposition parties to present a formidable front to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the elections.

Yusuf described the Ekiti PDP's endorsement as a significant boost to efforts to elect Makinde as Nigeria's next president. He criticized the Tinubu-led APC administration for alleged failures. "We are working very hard and putting all our energy on this election because we are running to win," Yusuf stated. "We have a good Presidential candidate in Governor Makinde who has already become the rallying point for Nigerians, especially the youth."

He further claimed that Nigerians see Makinde as a credible alternative due to his performance as Oyo State Governor. "Since Engr. Seyi Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate, Nigerians from across the country are increasingly identifying with our party, with many of them expressing their readiness to mobilise support for the APM and its candidates," Yusuf added. He welcomed the Ekiti PDP's support and indicated more solidarity would be announced soon. Yusuf attributed the APM's appeal to its commitment to democratic values, accountable governance, security, economic recovery, and sustainable development.
