Tinubu appoints Olarewaju-Smart as Special Adviser on House of Reps Matters

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as the new Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, specifically focusing on the House of Representatives. The announcement was made by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

He is an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and a LEAPS Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Olanrewaju-Smart, who holds a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He is also an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and a LEAPS Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His academic background is complemented by professional diplomas and fellowships in public policy and relations.

He also holds a professional diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Public Relations and was a Policy Fellow at Quantum Alliance AI, United States.

His legislative career includes significant roles within the House of Representatives, serving as a Research and Media Assistant and later as Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff to the Speaker across several assemblies. He joined the presidency in October 2023 as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Inter-governmental Affairs.

His legislative career spans roles as Research and Media Assistant to the Minority and Majority Leaders of the House during the 7th and 8th Assemblies.

The statement highlighted Olanrewaju-Smart's contributions to landmark legislation, including the Interest-Free Student Loan Act. President Tinubu expressed confidence that Olanrewaju-Smart's expertise will enhance the coordination and relationship between the presidency, various government agencies, and the House of Representatives. The appointment is effective immediately.
